EDITORIAL: REMODELING OF JOS-NORTH LGC’S LEGISLATIVE CHAMBER: IN DEFENCE OF CHAIRMAN, JOHN. K. CHRIS’ INITIATIVE

As long as governance and the implementation of government policies are a continuing process, the idea of building on the imprint of Predecessors by Successors is advised and encouraged.

The ideas of Predecessors are usually linked to the needs of the people during the lifetime of an administration, just like the remodeling of our ancestral houses in our villages.

In Plateau State, revered and admired J. D Gomwalk, had several ideas during his administration’s lifetime in Plateau State, which were later developed into Architectural Designs. He did not completely develop all, but his Successors, among which was, late Chief Solomon D. Lar, made them visible and functional.

Despite his efforts, others taking the part of Solomon Lar, continued to remodel these edifices. Among these lofty ideas of J. D. Gomwalk is the Plateau State Secretariat, which is still named after him.

BARR. CHRIS, CHAIRMAN JOS-NORTH LGC

In Plateau State, Sen. Jonah Jang, had designed and built the New Government House Little Rayfield, while Sen. Simon Bako Lalong, the immediate past Governor of the State built on it.

The incumbent Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang’s efforts to make it more functional and to meet up with the standards across the state and beyond, cannot be overemphasized at this time.

The most important ingredient in these developments is simply having an administrative idea and being focused in achieving it, for the people of the Community, Local Government or the State.

In Jos-North Local Government Council, several successes have been showcased by different Chairmen, which includes, both the elected and non-elected ones.

The Legislative Chambers recently remodeled by the incumbent Executive Chairman, Barr. John K. Christopher, also falls into the class of a Government Policies that has a continuous process.

The edifice was the main office of the earlier Jos-North Local Government. Some one else built other structures around it to give room for efficiency, and time and space management.

During the reign of Prof. Atu as Chairman of the LGC, several structures were celebrated within the Council. Among these efforts of Atu, was the relocation of several offices for administrative convenience.

This therefore means that the Legislative Chamber is not a new edifice within the Council, but for reasons, it has been remodeled by Administrators or Chairmen, who care to put the structure into proper use for the benefit of the people and the smooth running of the Local Government Council.

It remains a fact and on record, that the Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb has given the 17 LGC Chairmen in the state, the free hand to run their Local Government Councils and remain accountable to the people. It therefore also follows that the Remodeling of the Legislative Chamber in Jos-North LGC is the handy work of the incumbent Chairman, J.K. Chris, and his administration, which is for the benefit of the Legislative Arm, as it would enable them to have a conducive environment to work for and in the interest of the people.

There was no speech of the Chairman, during and after the occasion, dissociating the immediate past administration of the Council in the development of the Legislative Chamber, but he had only lamented that the edifice has not been put to its proper use(s).

The Facts here are that nobody has denied that the edifice had been remodeled by the past and present administrations. Secondly, nobody is disputing that the furniture in the Chamber is not new. More also that the structure is now wearing a befitting Legislative look for the Legislators is not also in dispute.

The idea and time to pull people down has come and gone in modern societal settings, rather, the time to join hands and build with the incumbent is Now!

The call therefore, would be for all peace-loving people, past and present leaders of Jos-North LGC, to join hands with John K. Chris, to reunite unify, and build Jos-North Local Government Council (LGC) and Jos-North Local Government Area (LGA). Gamut
